In October 2013, I created my most popular passive program, a Painted Pumpkin Scavenger Hunt. Each pumpkin was painted as a popular character from a children’s book, ten pumpkins total. Participants had to find them in the library and guess who it was. All in all, we had over 300 people participate. We even got a call from a library system two hours away who had heard about it from one of their patrons. All pumpkins were donated by a local pumpkin patch so cost was minimal. It was lots of work though, painting and touching up. Also, do NOT do for a full month. Pumpkins get rotty in a library! All in all, a big hit that I plan on making an annual event.
